First, unfortunately, there is no other app than Topo 8. Sorry. I wish there was. Second, you will want some sort of GPS file converter. Google "GPS Babel" and download it. It'll let you convert the GPX files generated by Topo 8 into the KML or KMZ files for Google Earth and vice versa. You can do p...

Yes, the DeLorme Topo 8 software is awful from a UI standpoint. I've told them this several times on their own forum. I'm a computer geek and programmer and have been using GPSes for ten years and I find it baffling more often than not. If you post over on the DeLorme forum though, they will usually...

Welp, I won't be making it to this ride. The moron on eBay that sold me the front storage box for my XP required signature confirmation. So, after waiting three days before shipping it, then UPS rescheduling delivery from yesterday (when I was home) to today, it won't be coming in time for the trip....

Yeah that new SPOT looks neat. I may have to upgrade if they give us enough of a price break. I won't be subscribing to the Spotcasting bit again, though. I never use it. I wouldn't mind going back to a satellite phone, but the iridium system is EXPENSIVE, and the Globalstar one, while getting bette...

I think that's normal for the 800. Actually I think most of it is coming out of the breather tube. I've always found a film of oil (more like dirt) around the end of the crankcase vent tube, which ultimately ends up on the motor. I clean it off, it comes back, etc. I just check the oil before every ...

Yeah it's one of the things I love about central Utah... they're very big on ATVs out there. Most of the towns let you ride into town to get gas, food, motel, etc. A few don't, but most do. I'm SO itching to get back out there for a week or so... Great pix, GG, and great narrative to go with it! Rob

So far I will either be out Thursday night and stay over there at Meadow Lake, or I'll be out there by 9 am on Friday morning. I'll follow you guys as far as I care down Fordyce, then go off and do my own thing, maybe with others who don't care to do Fordyce either. What's the plan for Saturday's ri...

I agree -- those maps have a roughly 50-70% accuracy at best when it comes to those trails. But it's still nice to have 'em... sometimes I can find a trail that is otherwise buried or overgrown. We've had to do this on some of the Nevada rides in the past (with you-know-who -- he who they've asked m...

I save the tracks from all of my rides too. What's really helped me though, is my new GPS -- a Delorme PN-40 SE. It allows you to download and store in it, actual USGS 7.5' topographical maps. That way you can see if there are trails, when most of the vector-based maps from Garmin (and even Delorme)...

This site has been around for several years. It gets your blood boiling doesn't it? It's just another great example of the complete LACK of tolerance the "other side" has, while claiming they're all about tolerance. 99.9% of the stuff that site states as fact is pure fiction. Most reasonable people ...

Here's the deal... if you had had the experience, wouldn't you want to make absolutely sure that everybody knew about the guy, so they wouldn't jeopardize themselves riding with him? Seriously. BUT, since it appears Brad is no longer riding, then yeah, I can probably let it go. In truth, it wasn't e...
