Adopt A Fire Look out - Chadd?
This was sent by Del Albright from FOTR. Chadd....isn't this an area you ride?
I need your indulgence for just a minute. This is not exactly a pure
Rubicon issue, but it relates to what we, as FOTR are doing....saving
our trail by taking ownership of our trail. We are setting the
example for other groups to follow. So please help me pass this one
around the Boards and such.
A USFS fellow contacted me looking for a club or group of folks to
adopt a fire lookout. Like an Adopt a Trail or Adopt a Cabin type
thing, this would be an Adopt a Lookout (take care of it, do some
maintenance, get it ready for winter, and have access to it for
meetings, events, sight seeing, etc.). We could tie this into our
FOTR efforts and show how our efforts branch out to similar efforts
to preserve our access.
So....if you or your club is looking for something different to do,
and to make a name for yourself, let me know and I'll put you in
touch with the USFS guy. The lookout is Pilot Peak in the Plumas
National Forest. Nearby towns are Quincy, LaPort, and Oroville.
This would be a great way make positive inroads with the USFS up there.
Let me know and spread the word.

Well..I HIGHLY suggest Terry work WITH Del....Del is HIGHLY respected with the Forest Service and obstacles will GO AWAY if he works with Del. Have Terry email me...so I can put the two together.

Good to hear. I've been going up there since the early 90's and that poor thing has really fallen apart the last 5 to 8yrs. One of the guys I ride with has been visiting it since the ealry 70's. He's got a claim and a hard rock tunnel just around from it. I was under the impression that a group had already adopted it. I just hope it works...would hate to see the FS burn it down for safety reasons like I've been hearing about some of the others.
