Little Jaunt

I thought I would take a little ride in the Tadpole Creek area. It's a small area off Foresthill Road almost to Robinson Flat. It's got a killer view of the North Fork American River Canyon. The bad news is that it was burned over in the 2009 Westville/Government Spring fire, but the good news is that the vistas are awesome. Someday I'm going to get up at oh-dark-thirty and go out to the point to see the sunrise from there.
BUT, the weather got the best of me, there was a thunderstorm overhead. I didn't get out to the point because it started to rain and thunder was rumbling and the area is really open with nothing. Still, I racked up a whole - 8 miles. But I actually logged some new miles on a road that I had not tried before. It's always nice to get out, no matter what.
Up on top, looking east.
Love the rain like this.
I found some carpenter ants hollowing out a gi-normous log - note they each have a little piece of wood and are tossing it out. (I estimated it was 400-500 years old by doing some counting. Kinda sad to realize some idiots caused a fire that took this tree out.)
Back in the forest, I stopped....
