Sportsman XP Questions
I know there are some here who have the new XP... maybe you guys can answer this for me.
1. Where the heck is the air filter? The sales guy and I yesterday couldn't find it. He kept tracing the intake back to the belt drive housing, but there's something under the seat, forward, with some thumbscrews that looks like it comes off/out... wondering if it's in there.
2. Where is the oil filter?
3. Does anybody know if the XP has the same belt issues as the previous gen units? I.e. do I need to carry a spare belt with me, and do I have to remove the rear plastic? This is my biggest concern with the XP.
4. Are the stock tires as bad as they look?
5. The rear swaybar is awfully close... will a set of 26" Bighorns fit without rubbing?
I think that's it for now.

1) If I remember correctly it is under the seat, I will have to check my buddies again.
2) The oil filter is under the quad orientated vertically.
3) I have not heard of any belt issues. The clutch setup is simmilar to the Yamaha design which is the best in the business.
4) So far the stock tires have not been bad and actually they performed better in the spring snow than my mudlites. He has not had any punctures yet in around 300mi on varied terrain.
5) They will not fit without aftermarket wheels or modifying the sway bar. We tried to stuff some on the stock wheels the other day and they rubbed.

That's cool if the belt drive is that much improved.
What bothers me are the tires. I heard that the '09 swaybar was a problem... it's been fixed for '10 but other reports say the '10 bar won't fit on an '09. I need to see if OTD has any '10s in stock that I can look at. I suppose I'd get a '10 if the price was right, even though I'd have to give up on Camo.
Hmmm.

Went back by the dealer today... no 2010 XP's in stock. I'm still going to get the 09. I guess I'll just have to use a spacer on the rear wheels to get the Bighorns to clear. Any idea how much of a spacer I might need? I'm hoping no more then a half inch, but preferably 1/4"... otherwise I'll need longer studs.
The ITP SS212's are sharp (in black, since it'd be a Camo quad), but I wonder how far they'd stick out compared to stock. I need to keep the width as close to stock as possible or I can't fit two ATVs side by side in my 5th wheel toyhauler's garage.

Hey Rob,
This might be something to consider. I have ATV guru bumbers for my 800, and they are far superior to the Pure Polaris, in my opinion.
