1955 San Francisco
I know there are at least a few of us who grew up in the Bay Area near San Francisco. Here's a film that's really a hoot - many scenes from 1955 in SF.

Hospital Curve...without a center divider?
No wonder it got that nickname.
On a side note.....I got diverted to SF a few weeks ago....landed at 1:45AM...got a rental car...left the airport...and promptly ran into stopped traffic near 16th Street at Hospital Curve.....Massive crash at 2 fucking AM....took 45 min to get through.

At the slightest hint of a slowdown, I'm on the surface streets to the Bay Bridge approach near 2nd St... But who'd figure a mess in the wee hours....?Ken wrote:Hospital Curve...without a center divider?

That's cool, the shots of Fisherman's Wharf made me hungry. The last time I was there many years ago, Alioto's and their sign in the shape of the fish was still there. Maybe still there today?
The only thing disappointing about the video is that Dirty Harry didn't pop out and shoot someone.

Re: 1955 San Francisco
The picture that blew me away most was a picture of Islais Creek. It's positively pastoral, barns and small buildings, widely spread. Not much creek now - that's near Army, errr, Cesar Chavez Street and 101. It's just hard to imagine SF before the sprawl.

Yeah..those are great picture progressions.
I love this little diatribe about BART and it's evilness....who ever wrote it....is currently living in an Occupy tent, no doubt.
We will have the Bay, of course, if that is not filled in, too. But you won't be able to see it for the highrises and air pollution. You will be walking on streets where the sun, blotted out by gigantic buildings, never shines, one of a million ants on the anthill, one cog in a machine that keeps churning with no purpose other than to grow bigger and make more money for the multi-millionaires who run it.
